BT II Huawei: Cambodia

Its been two days since I arrived here and its everything but. Malaysia is still the best place to live in. I have heard glorious things about this country, Angkor Wat, the post-Khmer buildings, but I have just not got the catch yet. There are swamps of motorcycles here, and people here are friendly, its just lacking some things. I have yet to go around town as I started working the day I got here. Had to rush back to office to meet the big guns and then sat down for a round of meetings. Today is Friday and I will be doing a town tour on my own tomorrow and over the weekend.

Hopefully I will be able to check the city out at its fullest. The office is small with only a handful of HW staffs around. Everyone speaks English fine but the thing that baffles me is that, everything is in USD (US Dollars). This country does not produce anything on its own and that makes everything else so dear. I have been complaining that RM 1.92/litre (the recent hike) in Malaysia is crazy... and I am sure most of us are speaking the same language. Wait till you get here. The oil price here is USD$ 0.90cents/ litre!!! Almost RM4/litre!! Whatmore given the earning power against the cost of living here which actually does not balance up. People here find it difficult to understand why we complain about the price of petrol in Malaysia. And after speaking to one or two of them, I was duly humbled. And yet, they look fresh, bright and find that, not everything is that bad! They seem to be more contented with their life, albeit at a slower pace, because they have nothing to lose, and also all to lose! They are both.

The only word they recognise is TODAY. TOMORROW will think for itself because they stop short of talking about it.

To me, it is all very new and educating. I feel extremenly humbled by it! This is my second APEX trip after touring Europe last year and the implications are unexplainable. Its all about humility. Jakarta was beyond my expectations, Cambodia surpassed everything. It taught me something new.

I will have more pictures later.
