A Runaway Hit?

Well... not that I am left with any choice... but I am currently hooked on the soundtrack of this new movie just out not too long ago. The movie, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (Hindi: , Urdu: ???? ?????? ?? ????, translation: Never Say Goodbye) is a film directed by Karan Johar and produced under the Dharma Productions banner. It stars Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Abhishek Bachchan and Kiron Kher in pivotal roles. Arjun Rampal and Saira Mohan have cameo roles in the film. The film's score and soundtrack has been composed by the musical trio, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy with lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna is set in New York City. It was filmed over a 90 day shooting period in the USA and a few scenes were shot on 4 large sets in Mumbai's studios. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna was released on August 11, 2006

Not exactly a big fan of these movies but I still remember the good ol' times when I use to catch the afternoon slot every Friday and I wouldn't miss it. Then, there wasnt any PS2 or other things to do, and that, my friends, are good quality time spent at home with me 'rents.

At the moment, there's nothing much I can do in Pakistan... not exactly the best of places to be in terms of entertainment but hell, it'll do for the moment because I am not given the luxury of time to do anything else. There are some commandments that I am following at the moment. Here goes:

1st C- Thou Shall not expect anything more than anything in Pakistan

2nd C- Thou Shall BE satisfied with whatever that comes, even to watch AXN on cable

3rd C- Thou Shall not look forward to holidays because there is only 4 real holidays, all towards the end of the year and that also, subjected to local guys.

4th C- Thou Shall not Commit to something that cannot be delivered

5th C- Thou Shall just nod head during "Lost in Translation" moments and clarify later

So far, I can only think of this much. More Laters... Chaoo... and yeah... Happy Birthday MOM! You are always thought of even though at a distance. Love ya'...

Week V: Tight Schedule

Its been manic.. not only on Mondays but also on weekends. Imagine ppl calling you up at 6am when you are still in winter wonderland... and at 11.30pm when you are about to go to bed. All these, at intervals of 5-10 minutes. I recharge my phone at least twice a day after it goes low batt. That's how tight these schedules are and how it is everywhere or anyone involved in this project. But yeah, its a good learning process. I am not complaining. I am enjoying it... at times only!

The most comforting part is, YES!! its been a month! How time flies and I absolutely love it! I am sure before I know it and with these crazy schedules and plan, I'll be home scot free. More later. Ta...

My Venezia...

I was watching the “Travel” channel on satellite just now. They had an entire 2 hour slot dedicated to Venice. Ahh… the love of my life… the story of my life. I can never best find the right words to describe it. Being in the city means falling in love with it. I have personally been there twice and I can never forget every moment of it. The place is filled with memories. Its easy to get lost amidst the maze of cobbled lanes and lamps but that’s exactly what it is all about. Every turn brings a new discovery, and every discovery is a mystified enchantment. The small canals are the best where you’ll find solitude and there’s the occasional humming of Gondoliers on their gondolas serenading. You might not see them but that’s the fun and it’s no wonder they call it the most romantic city. I wouldn’t say otherwise. Paris is OK but Venice is certainly better. I fell in love with the city twice, I wont rule out eternity. St. Marco Sq is just fabulous. You have to be there to fall in love with it. The Grand Canal, the grandeur amongst the grand Palazzos, is just too much to bear. My favorite spot would definitely be the Rialto Bridge. I still remember sitting there under the bridge, watching the gondolas pass by, the romantic serenade, couples walking by, some just sitting by the cafés, watching the world go by, there’s just so much to take in.

I will return. Most definitely!

Week IV: Another Beginning

My 4th Week has just begun. Crazy schedules I would imagine. But getting by with sceneries as below, is really comforting. Ahh... autumn, reminds me of a lot of things, the season for contemplation. Its always nicer to have 4 seasons... It makes lives more interesting, giving more perspective to perceptions.

As of now, I will settle with the crazy schedule first. As seen below, its a long way up and I will be there. Taken from one of the sites I visited on Saturday, the pixie below is a 40m telco tower.

Week IV: Let's get into the Groove

As promised, some pictures during my last three weeks in Pakistan. Its kinda tough trying to upload these pictures because the connection at home is super slow (not that it is dial up but a 10Mb speed really didnt help in uploading all them pixies and also partially because Pakistan had imposed a ban on blogspotters.) Anyway, here they are.

Jinnah International Airport, Karachi: (L) I was only there for a short while while waiting for my next flight out which was delayed. Doesnt look too much of an airport from the outside ey? This picture was taken inside McDs, just right opposite the airport. Err... not too wise to venture outside... to them, I am an alien. (R) Inside the Airport

My Guesthouse [Awari Lodge]: Enlarge the check in card on the left and see points number #3, #7 and #10. Apart from that, the guesthouse is pretty cool. The pic on the right was taken right in front of the guesthouse, a small little garden surrounded by pine trees.

My Room: Aint it nice? Inside, there is a tv, a comfie sofa + a coffee table right in front of the tv, my queen bed, a dressing table, a mini bar, and en suite washroom. Its is more spacious than a hotel room definitely.

Huawei Offices: (L) Huawei Technologies Pakistan, Saudi Pak Tower. Huawei shares the same building as the United Nations (UN). All UN sub entities are located here. (R) UFONE project office, and this is where I am situated. Its a bungalow which extends right to the back. Its not small, lets just put it this way.

Autumn's here: Trees alligned outside the project office. Isn't it beautiful?

Pic (L): Just right outside the office, I took this rather unassuming picture of a barren tree from far, from the top of the bungalow, autumn's here, the leaves have all fallen, and the backdrop with the moon eerily reminds me of the days that would be ahead for me.
Pic (R): My project car that I am sharing with another 2 PM's. Its a Toyota Corolla.

Chinese Food Plaza: (L)(from l-r: Me, Aszman and Lim) Having a meal on a Friday night, or was it Saturday? ... after a long days' work with some beers to chill.
(R) Some Mongolian Squid cooked in a hot pot and some Green Pepper Chicken
(Middle) Aahh... my staple diet... the good ol' Chicken Fried Rice take away... on most days that is.

City Scenes: (L) The more famous ice cream parlours located all over the city. This one's more highlighted in a way. Since alcohol is illegal in the Pakistan, this is the only form of entertainment more likely... havent tried them yet but the locals refer their ice creams as the Gelato's of the East. Errr...
(R) In the city itself. More coordinated than other cities as it was well planned by Greek architects. As seen there on the signboards along Islamabad Highway (as referred to by the locals), Pak Sect is one of the sectors in the city (more like Putrajaya's precinct), Zero Point refers to the first point or location that Islamabad was first constructed. Airport is airport, F-9 Park is another sector in this city...

Me: (L) Me on a Saturday surprise site visit to our contractors on one of the sites outside Islamabad. And yes, it was chilly alright! Felt like the past. This site was preparing for tower erection, as you can see, there are 4 excavated space ready for concrete pouring.
(R) Righttttt... errr.... guess the picture explains itself. Dont mess with me! hahaha... I am holding a pumpgun. Dont be surprised, all security guards in Pakistan have these cool 'gadgets'.

Barbed Pakistan: Well, guess this picture depicts my life in Pakistan... life ahead of me. hahaha... just messing. I am having a blast here! hahaha

Notice: Lastly, one funny notice from HW Pakistan... the Chinese style! Can you get a load of this??? I couldnt believe my eyes!!

On the lighter side: I just cant... or rather, wont be able to understand Malaysian politics. Rafidah and Hishamuddin... what can I say about you? Why all the bickering?
If someone were to tell you there's something wrong somewhere with your goodself, you take this opinion or criticism in and analyse it. Not just shove it up your own a** and say that they are not Malaysians and they dont understand. In fact, I truly agree with the Australian fella and he painted quite a true picture of Malaysian politics.

“What do we care? Obviously, this person doesn’t know Malaysia. He is an outsider and he can say what he likes. I don’t really care about what others say – as long as it is not a Malaysian saying it,” she said.

My say, get a load of yourself. I think almost 60% of Malaysians would agree with the writer's disposition on the current situation in Malaysia. Why isnt Malaysia progressing? Why are we so concerned about the aesthetics of perception than advancement? Seriously, do you think the world cares if Malaysia becomes the first country to play 'congkak' in space? What's the point? are we defying science? Are we making a breakthrough in science by telling everyone we are playing balls in space? I am sure a lot of Malaysians think this is a whole load of bollocks, just that, most of us have better things to do than to play with stupid politics.

And... Hishamuddin, stop the bickering. Grow up! I have heard so much about UMNO Youths and their what is and what nots... demanding for apologies to this and that, these are just small issues and this is exactly what the writer is talking about!! Why cant you preserve your energy for something even better... something useful to the Malaysian public?? Write to me if you still cant figure it out. I will tell you!!

Seriously, honestly, I am perplexed at the Malaysian politics. Absolutely petrified and disappointed. Petrified because really, its drowning my country. Disappointed, because its my beloved country. Trifle issues such as those mentioned above, the conversion of faith, the rumor mongers, chaos creators, the NEP issue, the economic proportions, ... why are we sucked into all these issues??? I really dont understand. Why are these minorities so bent on creating segregation? Why are these people so focused on who's who and what? Why cant they come together as Malaysians, strive forward and be someone somewhere?

Why hasnt our government yet to figure out why are our Malaysians abroad not coming back? It was a hot topic a while ago. What happened? Really, why? Has the government asked themselves this question? With all these happening, do you think they are crazy enough to come back and support the nation's cry for development and advancement? Tell me.

Thank you Michael Backman.

Remaining Time

4:24pm

I have just completed my pre-planning report for BSC surveys and have sent to UFONE for confirmation. Probably be early next week before sites are confirmed and survey can be started. I dislike people crowding behind my desk for discussions. Its plain rude. There always this feeling that they could be peeping at my screen and the thought just kills me.

Listening to Meet Joe Black's orchestra tune. Its soothing. It warms my day. Its cold. Very chilly today. Everyone seems oblivious to the chill. They are all up and about. Why not? Their sites are delayed, customers are beginning to get cold feet as well... and when that happens, its not good. I foresee these to happen soon for me but I intend to avoid it. This is called Risk Management.

I have my snow cap on. People look at me with strange looks. My say, turn the GOD damn heater on! My literal answer to their looks..."Yeah Bhai... Malaysia is hot all season long. No 4 seasons... only one season, which is hot"... and their response go... "AaaAaaHhhhhhHhhhhhh....."

...Long silence, and its all back to work again...

4:34pm

Sullivan Street is on now. Was listening to CC's Round Here before. I saw Amazing Race Asia last night. It was better than expected. But why not, its an overseas production. Its expected. Go Malaysian Team (there's two). But I think the Indonesian team is good. Philippines just got eliminated. Poor thang... what luck they have. Repeats on Sunday @ AXN. Catch it... its cool.

4:37pm

A Chinese national is frowning in front of a Pakistani, all happening right in front of me. There's a long pause. The Pakistani is still waiting. The Chinese frowns further. His forehead lines are showing. The Pakistani frowns as well. The Chinese seems constipated now. Something wants out but its not out. The Pakistani holds his breath. Alas... "E-E-x-ke-paten". Now, the Pakistani frowns... "what???" The Chinese repeats. Now the Pakistani looks at me..."huh??" I look at the Chinese. The Chinese says something in Mandarin. I frown... "huh??" He frowns further, uttering more Mandarin towards me. I frowned further and said... "tell me the word you are trying to say again... " He repeated it three times. I asked him which department is he from. The Pakistani is still looking on but perplexed! The Chinese tells me he is from Civil Works Department. I paused for a while, piecing the jigsaw together. AaaAAaaAAaaHhhhhh.... "EXCAVATION". The frowns disappear from everyone's face. It turns to JOY and ECSTACY. The Chinese and Pakistani thanked me like they have never did before... thanking me for saving their lives and each other's time.

4:46pm

Ahhh.... my favorite song. hold up hold up'...

Another summer day
Has come and gone away
In Paris and Rome
But I wanna go home
Mmmmmmmm

Maybe surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel all alone
I just wanna go home
Babe I miss you, you know

And I’ve been keeping all the letters that I wrote to you
Each one a line or two
“I’m fine baby, how are you?”
Well I would send them but I know that it’s just not enough
My words were cold and flat
And you deserve more than that

Another aeroplane
Another sunny place
I’m lucky I know
But I wanna go home
Mmmm, I’ve got to go home

Let me go home
'Cause I’m just too far from where you are
I wanna come home

And I feel just like I’m living someone else’s life
It’s like I just stepped outside
When everything was going right
And I know just why you could not
Come along with me
That this is not your dream
But you always believed in me

Another winter day has come
And gone away
In even Paris and Rome
And I wanna go home
Let me go home

And I’m surrounded by
A million people I
Still feel all alone
Oh, let me go home
Oh, I miss you, you know

Let me go home
I’ve had my run
Baby, I’m done
I gotta go home
Let me go home
It will all be all right
I’ll be home tonight
I’m coming back home

4:55pm

End. Continue work. Tonight I am going home early. My feet is getting numb. Tmr has to be double socks. No mood to work coz its cold. Going back to chill and have a nice cuppa hot chocolate.

Cold Feet

1:43pm.

Its shorter days, Life’s a catapult,
Can I ever get some sleep,
Amidst this madness, that creeps on you, inside.
Will it ever go away, I wonder. Every single day, every single hour.

It eats you up like a crushed marshmallow or jelly bean
Slowly but surely, it never ceases. Why do you not understand?

[bridge]
Does it ring a bell, when you pass the train station,
Do you ponder a bit longer at the sight of snow,
Have you ceased to think? Coz I am getting cold feet…

[chorus]
Step out to the open, tell me it was all a lie,
Let it all out, tell me it was just all a waste of time and let me bury the ghost of cold feet.

Its longer days now, come up front, summer’s here,
And I sleep through the months, its not the same hands that hold you no more,
The park seems empty, the car’s running outta gas,
Will it ever go away, I wonder. Every single day, every single hour.

Week III: Midweek

Today could have so easily been close to 8 years. Any wonder why? or how? would it have been better? my heart says yes. OR also probably not. No one knows. The picturesque is stuck. Its like the cameraman was hit and is lying on top rustling leaves with its camera still rolling. Leaves keep falling, people keep on walking by, not noticing. Even the sniper has left the scene. And the cameraman is still lying in the park, not knowing what zapped him, or hit him. Green and yellowish leaves fall, and gentle breeze huff and puffs them all over. The cameraman is still lying in the park. He turns to a pauper. Not at wealth but at heart. Not knowing what had hit him. Waking up from reality is hard. BUT waking up with conscience not haunting you... is GREAT. No one needs that. Not me, not you, not anyone.

Today is Friday. Same ol' same ol'...

Bolehland Bandwagon

Now now... after the Sultan of Johor, Abdul Ghani jumping on the bandwagon as well?

Quote from Abdul Ghani in The Star:

He reiterated that even if the term Bangsa Malaysia had to be used, it should be limited to the definition of the people of Malaysia with the Malays as the main race.

Abdul Ghani said that the Constitution did not encompass the concept of Bangsa Malaysia with the only definition of the different races being “Malays, Sarawak and Sabah bumiputeras as well as other races”.

Hail Bolehland... Malaysians are smarter than this jerk...

Week I: Em@il Issue

Well, its nice to know my email is back on after a week's lapse. Hopefully, when I get back to the project office, *fingers crossed*, my email will work as normal. Its not nice being left out... although emails are coming in, you are not receiving them and that shucks! Therefore, tonight I will have a whole lot to read and catch up.

Exactly one week since I touched down in Pakistan, it still seems like yesterday. Hope my Phase B will be just that. Chao...

Week I: Pakistan UFONE

Its strange when I can log into blogger to blog but can't see it. I've tried many ways of trying to get past proxy's and all but I still can't view my posts.

Anyway, surprisingly, Pakistan is not as what I had expected. It has turn out to be quite a nice surprise. It works out to be better. In fact, it feels as though I am back to the UK.... believe it or not. The weather is cool, the environment is nice and calm, no disturbances or whatsoever, contrary to the outside world's belief, but probably, its only in Islamabad which is safe and cool. I dont know about Lahore or Karachi or the more recent news in Peshawar. I get English breakfast every morning, watching BBC news or Sky News in my own room, which brings me back to them days. Its chilly in the morning which is super cool, unlike the sweaty conditions back in Malaysia. What more could I ask for? If you are asking me, I'll give it a thumbs up.

Project wise, not so smooth, but what is smooth? All projects are doomed unless a strong foundation is there but let's not go into that. I am still learning as I go along but ultimately, as the biggest project for my company in AP, I am kinda lost. However, I am more than sure that in time to come, I must get the hang of it whether I like it or not. There are just so many people involved in it that I am finding it hard trying to remember all the names. Again, lets not get into that. :-)

So far, so good. That's my assumption for this week. Its not a 5 day working week but a 6 day working week. I have got no problem with that because my life in KL is almost the same. Difference is, its tougher here as there are many extremely tight deadlines to adhere to. On the overall, cool! More blogs later.

Chao...
